NJDOT to shift lanes on Route 28
in Bound Brook and Middlesex

Bridge replacement project moves forward

(Trenton)- Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will shift Route 28 traffic onto the newly completed westbound lanes of Route 28 over Green Brook in Bound Brook, Somerset County and Middlesex, Middlesex County.

"Maintaining and improving New Jersey’s bridge infrastructure is NJDOT’s highest priority,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine. "Replacing the Route 28 Bridge over Green Brook will extend the useful life of the roadway and improve safety."

Starting Friday, August 8, the two newly constructed westbound lanes will carry one lane of traffic in each direction on Route 28 from East Street to Beechwood Avenue/Prospect Place. NJDOT will maintain eastbound and westbound traffic.

The shift is necessary as work begins on the eastbound side of the new bridge over Green Brook. As part of the $2 million bridge deck replacement project, NJDOT also will repave Route 28 and install guide rail and sidewalks in both directions. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2009.

NJDOT has installed Variable Message Signs on Route 28 to inform motorists of traffic pattern changes. Real-time travel and construction information is available online at www.511nj.org and https://nj-dot.nj.gov/transportation/commuter/.
