NJDOT announces completion of new Route 70 bridge over the Manasquan River

September 11 Memorial Bridge honors late Monmouth and Ocean residents

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced the completion of the new Route 70 September 11 Memorial Bridge over the Manasquan River connecting Brielle Borough and Brick Township.

“The impressive new Route 70 bridge stands as a reminder, both now and for future generations, of the residents of Monmouth and Ocean counties who lost their lives from the tragic events of September 11, 2001,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine.

The $52 million project to replace the structurally deficient Route 70 Bridge over the Manasquan River in Brick Township, Ocean County and Brielle, Monmouth County began in early 2006. In addition to replacing the bridge, NJDOT widened and reconstructed Route 70 from Herbertsville Road in Brick Township to Riverview Drive in Brielle. A new traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of Route 70 and River Road/Riviera Drive in Brick Township.

NJDOT built a pier that increases public access to the river in Brick. The project also includes a new eastbound bridge sidewalk, monuments, curbs and guide rail. A new median barrier will increase safety on the approaches to the bridge.

NJDOT will install two signs, one on each side of the bridge, officially designating the Route 70 Bridge over the Manasquan River as the “September 11 Memorial Bridge”. In addition, NJDOT will landscape the area surrounding these signs in order to increase their visibility.
