NJDOT announces final traffic pattern shift
on Route 57 bridge in Greenwich Township

(Trenton)– The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that on Sunday morning, October 12, traffic will return to the original configuration on the Route 57 Bridge over Merrill Creek in Greenwich Township, Warren County.

NJDOT has replaced the old deteriorated structure with a single-span concrete bridge carrying Route 57 traffic over Merrill Creek. The new $3 million structure was built incorporating aesthetic treatments consistent with the scenic and historic Route 57 corridor.

“The newly replaced Route 57 bridge in Greenwich Township is an investment in safety that exemplifies NJDOT’s annual commitment to improving the state's aging highway bridges,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine. “The reconstructed Route 57 will provide safer driving conditions on the structure and its approaches.”

NJDOT is also reconstructing and widening Route 57 to accommodate one 12-foot lane and 8-foot shoulder in each direction between Beacon Street and the vicinity of Lows Hollow Road (milepost 2.5 to 2.8). The reconstructed Route 57 will provide safer driving conditions throughout the area. NJDOT began construction on the project in April, 2007.

The contractor will still be instituting daily single-lane closures with alternating traffic on Route 57 from Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., as final paving and clean-up work is completed. Substantial completion of the project is scheduled for late-October 2008.
