NJDOT to replace the
Route 206 bridge over Assiscunk Creek

(Trenton)– The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the start of a project to replace the Route 206 Assiscunk Creek Bridge in the townships of Springfield and Mansfield, Burlington County.

“The replacement of this Route 206 bridge is an investment in safety that exemplifies NJDOT’s annual commitment to improving the state's aging highway bridges and increasing motorist safety,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine.

On Monday, November 3, NJDOT will close one lane on Route 206 in each direction between mileposts 29.49 and 29.60. At this time, all traffic will be shifted to the northbound side of the roadway as demolition begins on the southbound side of the existing bridge. A temporary traffic signal will be installed at the local Farmer’s Market entrance for traffic control, prior to the traffic shift. This traffic pattern is expected to remain in place for approximately three months. Traffic will be maintained in both directions on Route 206 throughout construction.

NJDOT’s $3.27 million project will replace the existing structurally deficient Route 206 bridge over the Assiscunk Creek with a new longer single-span structure. The new bridge will carry two 12’ travel lanes and 11’ shoulders in each direction on Route 206. NJDOT will also install new guide-rail and upgrade the existing drainage system on Route 206 within the project limits. The project is scheduled for completion in December, 2009.
