NJDOT announces
South Salem Street traffic shift in Dover
(Trenton) — The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that South Salem Street traffic has been shifted onto the recently completed eastern portion of the new bridge in Dover Township, Morris County. The shift is a major milestone of the $11 million South Salem Street Bridge replacement project.
On Saturday morning, January 24, NJDOT shifted South Salem Street between Franklin Avenue and East Blackwell Street onto the new structure. Construction will now begin on the western portion of the new bridge and the old structure will be demolished. NJDOT will maintain one lane of traffic in each direction,
NJDOT is replacing the South Salem Street Bridge over NJ TRANSIT with a new, 115-foot long steel bridge with one travel lane and shoulder in each direction. The structure will include sidewalks, safety railings and improved lighting and traffic signals. The project is scheduled for completion in October, 2009.
NJDOT has posted variable message signs throughout the corridor to alert motorists of upcoming traffic pattern changes and construction activity. Additional information is available via the NJDOT website at www.511nj.org.
