NJDOT announces Route 23 over
Peckman’s Brook bridge replacement in Cedar Grove

(Trenton) -The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the start of a $1.3 million bridge replacement project on Route 23 over Peckman’s Brook in Cedar Grove, Essex County.

“The State of New Jersey is committed to maintaining our bridges,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine. “The replacement of the Peckman’s Creek Bridge will improve safety and mobility for motorists on Route 23.”

NJDOT on March 20 will implement an alternating traffic pattern in order to begin the demolition of the east side of the Route 23 Peckman’s Creek Bridge. On March 21, traffic will be shifted to the west side of Route 23, and two lanes will remain open during construction. This traffic pattern will remain in effect through June 2009.

In June 2009, NJDOT will demolish and build the west side of the bridge. Traffic will be shifted to the east side of Route 23, and two lanes will remain open.

Once completed, the new bridge will feature one lane and one shoulder in each direction, as well as sidewalks.

The project is scheduled for completion in December 2009.
