NJDOT to replace Van Dyke Road
and Greenwood Avenue bridge decks in Hopewell

(Trenton) - Commissioner Stephen Dilts today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will replace the Greenwood Avenue and Van Dyke Road bridge decks over the Trenton Branch of CSX railroad in Hopewell Township and Hopewell Borough, Mercer County.

On Monday, June 22, NJDOT will implement alternating traffic patterns on the Greenwood Avenue and Van Dyke Road in order to start utility relocation and construction work. Access to local businesses and properties will be maintained.

Each bridge deck will be replaced individually. Construction will begin on the Van Dyke Road Bridge first and, the structure will be closed to traffic from early January until mid-summer 2010. The Greenwood Avenue Bridge will then be repaired and closed to traffic from summer 2010 through winter 2010.

The following detour routes will be used during the Van Dyke Road closure:

Van Dyke Road southbound and County Route 518 westbound traffic will take Lambertville-Louellen Road to West Broad Street to Van Dyke Road.

Pennington-Hopewell Road/West Broad Street traffic will be directed to Lambertville-Louellen Road to Van Dyke Road. West Broad Street westbound traffic will be directed to take Louellen Road to Van Dyke Road.

NJDOT engineers designed the $3.2 million project, which will replace the bridge decks, repave the roadways and install new curbs on the approaches to the Greenwood Avenue and Van Dyke Road bridges. The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2010.
