NJDOT to rehabilitate
Ramapo Avenue Bridge over Route 17 in Mahwah

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the upcoming closure of Ramapo Avenue over Route 17 for a bridge deck rehabilitation project in Mahwah, Bergen County. The $618,869 project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“NJDOT’s work will create and support jobs, improve safety, and extend the lifespan of the Ramapo Avenue Bridge,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine. “The Ramapo Avenue Bridge project reflects the State of New Jersey’s commitment to improving our infrastructure and stimulating the economy.”

From Wednesday, June 25 at 7 p.m. through 5:30 a.m. the following morning, NJDOT will temporarily close a single lane of Route 17 in both directions in order to install construction equipment under the bridge.

On Monday, July 6, NJDOT will close Ramapo Avenue over Route 17 for the duration of the project. Ramapo Avenue will reopen by September 2009.

The following detour routes will take effect July 6:

Ramapo Avenue westbound traffic will take Route 17 northbound to Route 202 (Ramapo Valley Road) to Route 17 southbound to Ramapo Avenue.

Ramapo Avenue eastbound traffic will take Route 17 southbound to McCarter Boulevard to Route 17 northbound to Ramapo Avenue.

Construction is scheduled for completion in September 2009.
