NJDOT announces Route 1 & 9 and
Delancy Street improvements in Newark
(Trenton) - Commissioner Stephen Dilts today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will replace the Route 1 & 9 northbound ramp to Delancy Street and install a new traffic signal at the intersection of Route 1 & 9 and Delancy Street in Newark.
“This project will relieve congestion in the area of Delancy Street and Route 1 and 9,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine.
On July 17, NJDOT will close the ramp from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. to install a construction barrier and reduce the width of the ramp to 14 feet. Motorists will travel on Route 1 & 9 to Route 1 & 9T northbound, turn right onto Doremus Avenue, turn right onto Wilson Avenue, turn left onto Avenue P, turn right onto Rutherford Street and intersect with Delancy Street.
Occasional nighttime lane closures may be needed on Route 1 & 9 northbound.
The $2.1 million project is scheduled for completion in November 2009.
