NJDOT announces resurfacing project on I-78 westbound in Hunterdon and Somerset Counties

(Trenton) – Commissioner Stephen Dilts today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will resurface I-78 westbound in Bedminster Township, Somerset County and Readington and Tewksbury townships, Hunterdon County.

“This $1.7 million project will improve the pavement on Route 78, which is one of the busiest highways in the State of New Jersey,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine. “NJDOT will work hard to minimize the impact of construction upon motorists.”

Starting July 20, NJDOT will resurface more than five miles of I-78 westbound from Cowperthwaith Road in Bedminster, Somerset County to Potterstown Road in Readington Township, Hunterdon County.

In order to resurface the roadway, NJDOT will close a single lane of I-78 westbound on Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Saturdays. Additionally, on Saturdays single lane closings will be in affect at 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. on Sundays and on Sundays from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Mondays.

Double lane closures may occur on Mondays through Thursdays from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day and on Fridays at 10:30 p.m. to Saturdays at 7 a.m. Also, from Saturdays at 10:30 p.m. to Sundays at 8 a.m. and on Sundays at 10:30 p.m. to Mondays at 5 a.m.

The $1.7 million project is scheduled for completion in October 2009.
