NJDOT announces I-287 resurfacing
project in Franklin Lakes and Oakland

(Trenton) – Commissioner Stephen Dilts today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will resurface I-287 from north of the Ramapo River to the vicinity of Franklin Avenue in Franklin Lakes and Oakland, Bergen County.

“NJDOT is committed to improving our state’s aging infrastructure and providing safe travel for all motorists,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine. “Resurfacing I-287 in Bergen County will improve safety and provide a smoother roadway surface.”

NJDOT will immediately start shoulder closures in order to prepare the roadway for resurfacing, new curbing, new guide rail and Intelligent Transportation System improvements. The right shoulders of I-287 will be closed for the duration of the project.

Starting August 3, NJDOT may close two lanes of I-287 southbound from the vicinity of Route 208 to Franklin Avenue in Franklin Lakes on Mondays to Thursdays from 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day, from Fridays at 9:30 p.m. to Saturdays at 7 a.m., from Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. to Sundays at 8 a.m., and from Sundays at 9:30 p.m. to Mondays at 6 a.m.

NJDOT may close up to two lanes of I-287 southbound from the Ramapo River to the vicinity of Route 208 in Oakland on Mondays to Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day, from Fridays at 7 p.m. to Saturdays at 8 a.m., from Saturdays at 8 p.m. to Sundays at 10 a.m., and from Sundays at 7 p.m. to Mondays at 6 a.m.

Ramp closures may be required for paving on Mondays through Fridays from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day. One ramp will be closed at a time and the detour route will be posted.

The $5.8 million project is scheduled for completion in July 2010.
