NJDOT announces I-78
rehabilitation in Greenwich Township

(Trenton) — The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the start of a concrete roadway rehabilitation on I-78 eastbound in Greenwich Township, Warren County.

“This $3.4 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act rehabilitation project is providing essential infrastructure improvements to I-78 while stimulating economic investment and job creation,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine.

On Monday, September 14, NJDOT will begin reconstructing I-78 eastbound from milepost 4.16 to milepost 4.83, as well as the Route 22 eastbound ramps to I-78 in Greenwich Township. Initial resurfacing work will begin on the I-78 eastbound right shoulder.

Then, on Friday September 18, NJDOT will close the left lane and shoulder on I-78 eastbound for the length of the project to begin reconstruction of the pavement. I-78 eastbound will be reduced from three travel lanes to two, and will be shifted over to the right. The ramp from Route 22 eastbound to I-78 westbound will maintain two travel lanes during construction.

Single lane closures will be allowed on I-78 eastbound Monday to Friday 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day, Saturday 12 midnight to 6 a.m. the next day and Sunday 12 midnight to 5 a.m. the next day.

Variable message signs will notify motorists on I-78 of any upcoming traffic pattern changes. NJDOT provides emergency roadway information, construction schedule updates and real time traffic information and images at www.511nj.org.

ARRA will stimulate New Jersey's economy by creating or supporting thousands of transportation-related jobs and making long-term improvements to roads, bridges and the transit system. New Jersey's transportation allocation includes $652 million for highways and bridges and approximately $425 million for transit. That total includes approximately $164 million for county and local transportation priorities and approximately $19.5 million for transportation enhancement projects.
