NJDOT to resurface Route 295 ramps
in Camden and Gloucester Counties

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that resurfacing operations will begin on the entrance/exit ramps to I-295 as part of the on-going resurfacing and pavement reconstruction project on Interstate 295 from Exit 24 to Exit 32 in Camden and Gloucester Counties. The $69 million project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Beginning Monday night, December 7, NJDOT will resurface three entrance/exit ramps to I-295 between mileposts 27.4 to 32.11 in Camden County; Copley Road to I-295 northbound in Barrington, Warwick Road to I-295 northbound in Lawnside, and I-295 northbound to Woodcrest Station (Exit 31) in Cherry Hill. The work will require nighttime closures of each ramp during resurfacing operations, which is expected to last one-to-two nights to complete at each location. The work will begin at the Copley Road entrance ramp, with the following detour routes in place over night;

• Copley Road traffic will take the ramp for I-295 southbound to the exit for Route 168 (Black Horse Pike) to I-295 northbound.
• Route 30 (White Horse Pike) traffic will take the ramp for I-295 southbound to the exit for Route 168 (Black Horse Pike) to I-295 northbound.

Also on Monday night, December 7, NJDOT will close the Old Broadway Avenue (CR-551) ramp to I-295 northbound in Deptford for approximately six weeks for ramp reconstruction work. The following detour routes will be in effect during the ramp closure;

• CR-551 southbound traffic will take Park Avenue westbound to Route 45 northbound (North Broad Street) to I-295 northbound.
• CR-551 northbound traffic will continue to Route 47 southbound (North Delsea Drive) to I-295 northbound.

NJDOT is rehabilitating I-295 in Barrington, Bellmawr, Cherry Hill, Haddon Heights, Haddonfield, Lawnside and Tavistock in Camden County and West Deptford and Westville in Gloucester County. The existing roadway is deteriorated and in need of a complete rehabilitation. NJDOT will also replace five I-295 bridge decks. Construction is scheduled for completion in summer 2012.

NJDOT planned the project in a manner that will minimize impacts to local businesses and residents. Construction will immediately begin south of the I-295/76/42 interchange with overnight single and double lane closures between mileposts 24.5 and 26.4 in West Deptford, Westville and Bellmawr.

Throughout construction, NJDOT will maintain three travel lanes in each direction on I-295 between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. In order to maintain three lanes of traffic in each direction, NJDOT will employ median crossovers.

NJDOT will install a real-time work zone travel system along the project route. This system monitors traffic in the work zone and relays travel time data to Variable Message Signs (VMS) that alert motorists of the projected time needed to travel from their current location through the construction zone. NJDOT has placed VMS along Route 295 and local roadways to alert motorists of traffic pattern changes. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website, www.511nj.org for travel times and project updates.

ARRA will stimulate New Jersey's economy by creating or supporting thousands of transportation-related jobs and making long-term improvements to roads, bridges and the transit system. New Jersey’s transportation allocation includes $652 million for highways and bridges and approximately $425 million for transit.
