NJDOT to start Amboy Avenue bridge
deck replacement project in Perth Amboy
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the upcoming start of a bridge deck replacement project on Amboy Avenue (County Route 653) over Route 440 in Perth Amboy, Middlesex County.
Beginning on Friday, February 26, NJDOT will conduct temporary single and double lane and shoulder closures with traffic shifts on Route 440 during off peak hours. Temporary lane closures will occur Mondays through Thursdays from 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the next day and on Fridays from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturdays.
NJDOT will also replace the deck for the U-turn lane on the Amboy Avenue Bridge over Route 440. This lane permits traffic from Route 440 southbound to make a U-turn to either Route 440 northbound or Grove Street eastbound. Sidewalks on the bridge will be replaced, the existing traffic signal will be updated and the approaches to the bridge will be milled and paved.
All work is weather dependent. Completion of the $4 million project is scheduled for fall 2010.
