Roff Avenue bridge over Route 46
in Palisades Park to be closed for major renovations

(Trenton) - The Roff Avenue bridge over Route 46 in Palisades Park (Bergen County) will be closed starting Friday, March 5 for major renovations to the bridge superstructure, NJDOT announced today.

The bridge, which accommodates one lane of traffic in each direction, will remain closed until the project is completed in the fall of 2010, resulting in new traffic patterns. Roff Avenue motorists will be detoured around the construction zone. The left lanes of Route 1/9 northbound and southbound will be closed at Roff Avenue.

Additionally, temporary single-lane closures will be established as needed on Route 46 eastbound and westbound during off-peak weekday and weekend hours.

• Motorists traveling south on Roff Avenue toward the bridge will turn right onto Route 1/9 southbound, proceed to the traffic signal at Broad Avenue, make a left turn onto Route 1/9 northbound and then turn right onto Roff Ave.
• Motorists traveling north on Roff Avenue will be detoured around the bridge by turning onto 1/9 northbound, staying to the right and following signs toward 6th Street/E. Homestead Avenue. They will turn left on E. Homestead, turn left on 5th Street and proceed to Route 1/9 southbound and turn right onto Roff Avenue.

NJDOT will announce other temporary changes affecting motorists on Route 46 for a few days in March and April. For limited time periods, Route 46 traffic will be either halted for approximately 15 minutes at a time or diverted around the bridge to accommodate demolition activity and the installation of new beams.

The project will replace the Roff Avenue bridge superstructure, including the steel girders, the deck and parapets.
