NJDOT to close County Route 537
over Route 73 in Maple Shade
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that the Main Street/Camden Avenue (County Route 537) overpass will be closed to traffic over Route 73 in Maple Shade, Burlington County.
At 6 a.m. Friday, April 9, NJDOT will close CR 537 over Route 73 for approximately two weeks to perform utility relocation and electrical work on the bridge. The entrance and exit ramps connecting CR 537 with Route 73 will be closed as well. This work is in preparation for the replacement of the CR 537 bridge deck over Route 73, which will begin this summer. The following detour routes will be in effect during the two-week closure:
CR 537 thru traffic detours:
- CR 537 westbound traffic will take South Lenola Road to Route 41 (Kings Highway) southbound to Route 38 westbound to Mill Road to South Forklanding Road to CR 537.
- CR 537 eastbound traffic will take Fellowship Road to Route 73 southbound to Route 38 westbound to Route 41 northbound to CR 537.
Entrance/exit ramp detours for access to/from Route 73 and CR 537:

- CR 537 westbound traffic to Route 73 southbound will take Fellowship Road to Route 73.
The bridge deck work is necessary as part of an $18 million project to increase safety and reduce congestion throughout this stretch of Route 73. NJDOT is constructing an additional travel lane in each direction from south of Fellowship Road/Fox Meadow Drive to East Main Street/Camden Avenue (CR-537) and realigning and widening the Route 73 and Fellowship Road/Fox Meadow Drive interchange to provide new dedicated turning lanes. NJDOT will also eliminate the free-flow movement from Fellowship Road to Route 73 southbound while also improving the drainage system around the CR 537 overpass to alleviate flooding.
The state-funded project is anticipated for completion in spring 2012.
Variable message signs are in place to notify motorists of the upcoming closure. NJDOT provides emergency roadway information, construction schedule updates and real time traffic information and images at www.511nj.org.
