NJDOT announces extension of
Gordon’s Corner Road/Tennent Road bridge closure
over Route 9 in Manalapan
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the Gordon’s Corner Road/Tennent Road Bridge over Route 9 in Manalapan Township, Monmouth County will remain closed to traffic through the upcoming weekend in order to replace the bridge deck.
NJDOT originally planned to close the bridge to traffic last weekend only, but demolition work is taking longer than anticipated, requiring that the bridge the bridge be closed to traffic until early Monday morning, May 17.
Route 9 has been restored to two lanes in each direction at this time. The western portion of the new bridge will be completed overnight this week, with the eastern portion being installed over the coming weekend. Route 9 will be reduced to one lane in each direction during the remaining nighttime and weekend work.
NJDOT is installing a new pre-cast concrete bridge structure connecting Gordon’s Corner Road and Tennent Road to Morganville Road (CR 3) and Wickatunk Road over Route 9 while also upgrading the bridge clearance and guide rails. The $6.3 million project began last month and is expected to be completed by late summer 2010.
The localized detour routes will remain in place during the extended closure.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other unanticipated factors. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.511nj.org or by calling 511.
