NJDOT to improve Route 130 in
Burlington and Mercer counties

(Trenton) - A resurfacing and concrete roadway repair project will begin next week on Route 130 in Burlington and Mercer counties, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced today.

NJDOT will mill and repave asphalt sections of the roadway and make repairs to concrete surfaces on northbound and southbound lanes between Bordentown and Hamilton. Traffic detection cameras that help optimize traffic flow will be installed at several signalized intersections, replacing older, in-pavement technology.

“Route 130 is an important commerce and commuter corridor, and this work will improve safety by creating a smoother ride for motorists,” said NJDOT Commissioner Jim Simpson.

Improvements to the northbound driving surfaces will be made between Route 206 in Bordentown and Klockner Road in Hamilton, and between AAA Drive and Allentown Road in Hamilton. Southbound traffic lanes will be repaired between Route 156 in Hamilton and Route 130 in Bordentown.

Sections of the roadway that are topped with asphalt will be milled and repaved, while concrete driving surfaces, including uneven joints between slabs, will be repaired. Workers will cut out damaged sections of concrete roadway to the exact dimensions of new pre-cast concrete sections, minimizing lane closures. All concrete surfaces will be diamond-ground to create a smoother driving surface.

Beginning Monday, May 24, NJDOT will conduct temporary single and double lane closures on Route 130 northbound from milepost 55.75 to 60.3 and milepost 61.8 to 62.48 and along route 130 southbound from milepost 55.75 to 59.8. The closures have been scheduled for evening and overnight hours to minimize traffic impacts. One lane of traffic will be maintained on Route 130 in both directions at all times.

Lane closures will occur Mondays through Thursdays from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day, on Fridays from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. the next day, on Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. the next day and on Sundays from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.

The $8 million project is scheduled for completion in October 2010.
