New traffic patterns for Amboy Avenue
over
Route 440 in Perth Amboy
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced new traffic patterns in connection with the ongoing project to replace the Amboy Avenue (County Route 653) bridge deck over Route 440 in Perth Amboy, Middlesex County.
Beginning Saturday, June 19 and continuing until mid-August, NJDOT will install a new work zone on the west side of the bridge and the existing work zone in the area of the U-turn lane will remain.
Two northbound lanes will be maintained on the east side of Amboy Avenue Bridge over Route 440 with one right turn lane and one through lane.
Amboy Avenue southbound and the U-turn traffic from Route 440 southbound will continue to be detoured to Waltrous Avenue to Convery Boulevard to Pfeiffer Boulevard and returning to Amboy Avenue or Route 440 eastbound. This detour allows workers to replace the deck for the U-turn lane on the Amboy Avenue Bridge over Route 440. The U-turn lane permits Route 440 southbound traffic to access Route 440 northbound or Grove Street eastbound.
Temporary single lane closures on Route 440 may also occur on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and double lane closures on Mondays to Thursdays from 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. on Fridays to 6 a.m. on Saturdays.
The $4 million project also includes resurfacing the approaches to the bridge, new sidewalks, and updated traffic signals. Completion is scheduled for fall 2010.
