NJDOT announces new ramp closures
for I-295 project in Burlington County

(Trenton) - As reconstruction progresses on the northbound side of I-295 in Burlington County the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced new upcoming interchange ramp closures.

Currently, I-295 northbound and southbound is reduced down to two travel lanes each direction, shifted over to the southbound side of the roadway.

On Friday, July 9, NJDOT will close Exit 56 from I-295 northbound to Rising Sun Road east and west in Bordentown Township to rubbilize the existing concrete roadway and repave the ramps with asphalt. The following detour routes will be available to I-295 northbound motorists:

• I-295 northbound can take Exit 52B to Florence-Columbus Road (CR 656) to Route 130 northbound, and make a right on Route 130 northbound to Rising Sun Road.

• I-295 northbound can take Exit 60 (I-195 east -Shore Points) to Route 206 southbound and make a right at Connector Road, then make a right at Rising Sun Road.

NJDOT will also reopen the interchange 52 ramps (Florence-Columbus Road) in Mansfield Township at this time. The ongoing closure and detour of the Interchange 45 on-ramps to I-295 northbound in Westampton Township will remain.

On or about Friday, July 16, NJDOT will reopen the Exit 56 interchange ramps and close the Exit 47 ramps from I-295 northbound to Burlington-Mount Holly Road (CR 541). The following detour routes will be in place at that time:

• I-295 northbound traffic destined for Burlington-Mount Holly Road will take Exit 52B, make a U-turn at the interchange onto I-295 southbound to Exit 47.

• Burlington-Mount Holly traffic destined for I-295 northbound will take the ramp onto I-295 southbound to Exit 43A (Creek Road) and make a U-turn at the interchange onto I-295 northbound.

Speed limits will be reduced to 50 miles per hour throughout the construction zone to promote safety.

Variable Message Signs will provide actual travel times through the construction zone and will be positioned to allow motorists to take advantage of up-to-the-minute information and alternate routes.

The $85 million project, which also includes repairing 12 bridge decks and installing new guide rail, is being accelerated with the goal of completion by the end of 2010.
