Traffic pattern changes coming for
Route 46 in Lodi announces NJDOT

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced upcoming traffic pattern changes on Route 46 as construction progresses on the $31.5 million Route 46 and Main Street improvement project in Lodi, Bergen County.

Route 46 traffic will be shifted over two weekend periods to establish the new construction zone on the northern portion of the roadway.

Beginning this Friday night, July 9, NJDOT will require nighttime lane closures to restripe Route 46 eastbound and shift eastbound traffic onto the newly reconstructed southern portion of the roadway.

The following weekend, NJDOT will close one lane of Route 46 westbound and one lane of Route 46 eastbound from 8 p.m. Friday night, July 16 to 8 a.m. Saturday, July 17 to restripe Route 46 westbound and shift westbound traffic onto the newly reconstructed southern portion of the roadway. The entrance and exit ramps from Route 46 westbound to/from Main Street will also be closed overnight.

Once the new construction zone has been established on the northern portion of the roadway NJDOT will maintain two lanes of traffic in each direction on Route 46, separated by construction barrier. Access to all businesses along Route 46 will be maintained.

The Route 46 and Main Street project will improve safety and relieve congestion by replacing the Route 46 bridge decks over Main Street and the Saddle River and widening Route 46 in order to provide a third lane in each direction from Kimmig Street to the vicinity of Hope Street. In addition, NJDOT will widen Main Street to four through-lanes and a center turning lane at Route 46 and will add traffic signals at the ramps from Route 46 to Main Street.
