NJDOT proposing to readopt rules on the transportation of hazardous materials
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is proposing to readopt with amendments, N.J.A.C. 16:49, Transportation of Hazardous Materials. This chapter establishes the requirements of the Department related to the governing of the transportation of hazardous materials in the State of New Jersey. The rules provide comprehensive regulation of the shipping, packaging, marking, labeling, placarding, handling, and transportation of hazardous materials, and are consistent with the regulations issued by the United States Department of Transportation.
The proposed rule appears in the July 6, 2010 issue of the New Jersey Register. The public has until September 4, 2010 to comment on the proposal. Persons wishing to comment on the proposal must provide their comments in writing to Miriam Weeks, Administrative Practice Officer, NJ Department of Transportation, PO Box 600, Trenton, NJ 08625-0600. Fax: (609) 530-3841. Comments must be postmarked or sent by facsimile on or before September 4, 2010 which is the close of the 60-day public comment period.
Comments submitted to the Department on the proposed rulemaking are public records and are available for public inspection by prior appointment during normal Department business hours.
