NJDOT reopens Amboy Avenue over Route 440
in Perth Amboy
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation today announced that the newly reconstructed Amboy Avenue bridge over Route 440 in Perth Amboy, Middlesex County was fully reopened to traffic this afternoon, September 2.
The bridge features one southbound lane, one northbound lane and one northbound dedicated left-turn lane.
"Maintaining and improving New Jersey’s bridge infrastructure is one of NJDOT’s highest priorities,” said Transportation Commissioner Jim Simpson.
NJDOT also replaced the deck for the U-turn lane on the Amboy Avenue Bridge over Route 440. This lane permits traffic from Route 440 southbound to make a U-turn to either Route 440 northbound or Grove Street eastbound. Approaches to the bridge were repaved, the traffic signals were updated and new sidewalks were installed as well.
Construction on the $4 million project began in February and is expected to be completed later this fall. There may be occasional temporary lane closures for the remaining electrical work on the bridge.
