Route 173 over the Musconetcong River
bridge opened to traffic

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that the newly reconstructed Route 173 bridge over the Musconetcong River has been reopened to traffic.

The bridge, which had been closed to traffic since early-March, was reopened Friday. It connects Greenwich Township, Warren County and Bloomsbury Borough, Hunterdon County.

“This rehabilitated Route 173 bridge exemplifies NJDOT’s commitment to improving the state's aging infrastructure and will provide safer driving conditions for local traffic in Hunterdon and Warren counties,” said NJDOT Commissioner Jim Simpson.

On Wednesday, September 15, NJDOT will close on lane of traffic and implement an alternating traffic pattern between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to upgrade and install guide rail within the limits of the project. Once that operation is done, the project will be substantially complete.

The $1.75 million project has fully replaced the structurally deficient bridge deck on Route 173, which accommodates one lane of traffic in each direction. In addition to replacing the bridge deck, NJDOT resurfaced the bridge approaches on Route 173 in both directions.
