NJDOT launches three new bicycle guides
Guides highlight Campgaw Caper, Double Trouble and Washington Rock and Roll Tour routes

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced it has posted three new bicycle guides on the Department website.

The new guides – the Campgaw Caper, Double Trouble and Washington Rock and Roll Tour – encompass more than 101 miles of bicycle routes.

“NJDOT’s new bicycle guides help promote New Jersey’s natural beauty and recreational opportunities for residents and tourists alike,” said Commissioner James Simpson. “Bicycling is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and to get exercise.”

• The Campgaw Caper guide tour begins and ends at Campgaw Mountain Reservation, a 1,351-acre park in Mahwah. The 25-mile tour can be easily segmented into two, 11-mile trips through tree-lined residential neighborhoods in Bergen County.

• The Double Trouble bike tour offers cyclists scenic views and local attractions throughout Ocean County, including Wells Mills Park, Albert Music Hall and Waretown Pier. The 54-mile tour begins and ends at Double Trouble State Park, off of Exit 77 of the Garden State Parkway.

• The Washington Rock and Roll Tour route reveals the scenic beauty of Essex County and passes by a number of cultural and historic points of interest. The 22.4 mile ride takes cyclists through Verona Park, past Millburn Station and to the South Mountain Reservation, featuring the popular Turtle Back Zoo.

NJDOT currently offers fifteen geographically diverse tour guides for bicyclists available in Portable Document Format (PDF). The maps include enhanced directions and information about parking, food and other local amenities.

NJDOT also publishes two long distance bicycle tour guides, the 238-mile High Point to Cape May Bike Route and the East Coast Greenway Multi-use Trail Guide.

In May the League of American Bicyclists recognized New Jersey as a “Bicycle Friendly State” and ranked the Garden State eighth in the country for its bicycle programs. That is the highest ever ranking New Jersey has achieved. The states were ranked based on more than 70 factors including education, enforcement, infrastructure, legislation, marketing, policies and programs.
