NJDOT announces Route 22
eastbound traffic pattern switch
Bridge deck replacement project progresses in Union
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that traffic will be shifted on Route 22 eastbound over Burke Parkway in Union Township, Union County as part of an on-going $1.2 million bridge deck replacement project.
On Friday night, October 22, NJDOT will shift Route 22 eastbound traffic onto to the recently reconstructed right side of the bridge. This shift will allow for the creation of a new work zone on the left side of the bridge. Once the new work zone is established by Sunday morning, October 24, occasional, overnight single lane closures will occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next day, with one lane maintained at all times.
NJDOT’s contractor, Mount Construction, is replacing the existing structurally deficient bridge deck carrying Route 22 eastbound over Burke Parkway, as well as the bridge parapets. The existing guide rail in the area will also be upgraded. Construction began in July and completion is scheduled for this winter.
