Route 50 lane closures announced in Hamilton
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced upcoming lane closures on Route 50 in Hamilton Township, Atlantic County for an on-going South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) project to widen the Atlantic City Expressway (ACE).
On Tuesday morning, November 30, SJTA will begin installing temporary protective shielding underneath the ACE westbound bridge over Route 50. This work will require approximately three days of periodic single-lane closures on Route 50 in each direction.
In order to demolish the existing structure, on or about Monday, December 13, the left-most lanes and left shoulders will be closed on Route 50 in both directions for approximately two weeks. Route 50 will be shifted to the right in each direction with one travel lane maintained. In late-December, the work zone will be shifted and the right lane and shoulder will be closed on Route 50 in each direction, with traffic shifted to the center portion of the roadway.
SJTA began the $23.4 million project to widen approximately ten miles of ACE westbound between milepost 7.8 and milepost 17.4 in October 2009. Construction is expected to be complete early next year.
NJDOT will utilize variable message signs on Route 50 to advise motorists of the lane closures. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.511nj.org
