NJDOT to replace Route 46 bridge deck over Beaver Brook in White Township

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the Route 46 westbound bridge deck over Beaver Brook in White Township, Warren County will be replaced.

“Maintaining the viability of our existing infrastructure is paramount to the Department’s overall safety goals,” said Commissioner James Simpson. “Route 46 in Warren County will be a safer highway for motorists as a result of this important project.”

NJDOT’s contractor, H&G Contractors Inc., is beginning utility relocation work along Route 46 westbound on Monday, December 6. This initial stage of construction will require some single-lane closures on Route 46 westbound during daytime hours. One lane of Route 46 westbound will be maintained at all times.

In late-December NJDOT will shift all Route 46 traffic onto Route 46 eastbound, maintaining one travel lane in each direction. Bridge demolition work will begin shortly after and bridge construction will continue through the winter.

The $1.9 million project will replace the existing, structurally deficient bridge deck, as well as the bridge abutments and approach slabs. New curbing and guide rails will also be installed. NJDOT will then resurface Route 46 westbound on either side of the bridge between milepost 7.08 and milepost 7.5. Construction is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2011.
