Route 22 eastbound traffic pattern to be shifted
NJDOT to begin final stage of bridge deck project in Union
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that traffic will be shifted on Route 22 eastbound over Burke Parkway in Union Township, Union County as part of an on-going $1.2 million bridge deck replacement project.
The traffic shift will allow NJDOT’s contractor, Mount Construction, to reconstruct the final third of the bridge deck.
On Thursday night, December 9, and Friday night, December 10 NJDOT will shift Route 22 eastbound traffic in order to establish a new work zone in the center portion of the bridge deck. Two travel lanes will be maintained, split around either side of the new work zone. Once the new work zone is established around 7 a.m. Saturday morning, December 11, occasional, overnight closures of the left lane will occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next day, with the right lane remaining open at all times.
NJDOT is replacing the existing structurally deficient bridge deck carrying Route 22 eastbound over Burke Parkway, as well as the bridge parapets. The existing guide rail in the area will also be upgraded. Construction began in July and completion is anticipated by the end of the year.
