North Marginal Street bridge reopens over Park Avenue in Weehawken
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that North Marginal Street has been reopened to three lanes of traffic over Park Avenue in Weehawken, Hudson County on Wednesday, December 15.
North Marginal Street had been reduced from three travel lanes to one since July in connection with the $925,000 bridge deck replacement project. The bridge deck replacement was accomplished with one lane of traffic maintained at all times. NJDOT’s contractor, Nagi Construction Co., has also upgraded the existing sidewalks in the area immediately adjacent to the bridge.
NJ TRANSIT will resume bus service along North Marginal Street, however the bus stop at the North Marginal Street bridge will remain closed until project completion. The temporary Stop Sign has been removed from the Route 495 ramp from the Lincoln Tunnel to North Marginal Street.
North Marginal Street is a one-way (westbound) connector roadway running parallel to the Route 495 westbound elevated highway leading from the Lincoln Tunnel. The roadway is a major carrier route for NJ TRANSIT and local buses.
Weather permitting, NJDOT will resurface and stripe the bridge approaches and intersection in January. If weather conditions do not allow this work to be done in January, it will be accomplished in spring 2011. Periodic single-lane closures will be necessary to perform these operations. NJDOT will provide notification in advance of any further lane closures on the roadway.
