Interstate 195 traffic to be shifted over New Jersey Turnpike in Robbinsville

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that Interstate 195 traffic will be shifted to the right in both directions over the New Jersey Turnpike in Robbinsville, Mercer County.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is lengthening the I-195 bridges over the Turnpike as part of a $112 million contract associated with the NJ Turnpike Interchange 6 to 9 Widening Program. The Interstate 195 bridges need to be lengthened in order to accommodate the Turnpike widening work beneath it.

Beginning Wednesday night, January 5, single-lane closures on I-195 in both directions will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. over three consecutive nights for preliminary work in advance of the traffic shift.

In early-February , Interstate 195 traffic is scheduled to be shifted to the right, utilizing the existing shoulder, in both directions between mileposts 6.6 and 7.2 as a new construction zone is established in the center portion of the highway. All work is weather permitting, in the case of snow the traffic shift will be pushed back one week.

Two travel lanes will be maintained on I-195 in each direction during daytime and peak period hours, while occasional nighttime single-lane closures will be necessary.

The NJ Turnpike is being widened between Interchange 6 in Mansfield Township, Burlington County and Interchange 9 in East Brunswick Township, Middlesex County. The roadway will be widened to 12 lanes with major modifications constructed at four interchanges.

Construction began in 2009 and the entire project is expected to be complete in late 2014.
