NJDOT to begin a bridge maintenance project along Route 18 in Middlesex and Monmouth counties
Preventive maintenance work will be done to 38 individual structures

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the start of a bridge maintenance project that will address 38 individual bridge structures along the entirety of Route 18 in Monmouth and Middlesex counties.

“Maintaining our state’s transportation infrastructure in a state of good repair is a top priority at NJDOT,” said Simpson. “Performing these types of proactive, preventive repairs helps prolong the lifespan of these bridges and delays the need for more extensive and more expensive projects.”

On Monday, March 7, NJDOT’s maintenance contractor, Joseph M. Sanzari, Inc., is scheduled to begin repair work at the Route 138 bridges over Route 18 in Wall Township, Monmouth County. Single lane closures will be allowed on Route 18 in each direction during overnight and off-peak hours and shoulder closures will be allowed at any time. During the summer months, construction restrictions will be in place prohibiting any lane closures on weekends.

To help extend the service life of 38 Route 18 structures between Wall Township and Piscataway, NJDOT will be performing different levels of bridge maintenance work at each location including deck patching, joint repairs, header reconstruction, crack repairs and the application of a corrosion inhibitor. Work will be performed on abutment walls and piers at certain locations as well.

The $3.2 million project is scheduled to be completed this fall.
