NJDOT announces section of Rutherford Avenue permanently closed in Lyndhurst
(Trenton) - A section of Rutherford Avenue westbound was permanently closed to traffic between Park Avenue and the Route 3 eastbound exit ramp in Lyndhurst yesterday.
Rutherford Avenue westbound motorists will now access Riverside Avenue by making a left turn onto Park Avenue.
The local roadway reconfiguration is being done in conjunction with the ongoing $149 million, federally-funded Route 3 Passaic River bridge replacement project. Closing this section of Rutherford Avenue westbound is necessary as a new deceleration lane and off-ramp is being constructed from Route 3 eastbound to Rutherford Avenue, west of the existing ramp. Later on in the construction schedule, Rutherford Avenue will be converted entirely to a one-way roadway heading east, between Riverside Avenue and Park Avenue.
NJDOT’s contractor, J.P. Creamer-Sanzari JV, is replacing the structurally deficient moveable bridge with a new fixed span over the Passaic River, connecting Clifton City in Passaic County with Rutherford and Lyndhurst in Bergen County. NJDOT has staged the project in a manner that will enable motorists to cross the Passaic River throughout construction.
Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for construction updates and real-time travel information.
