NJDOT to replace Interstate 78 ramp bridge deck
over Beaver Brook in Clinton Township
(Trenton) -
NJDOT officials today announced a bridge deck replacement project on the Interstate 78 westbound Exit 18 ramp over the Beaver Brook to CR 626 and the Annandale section of Clinton Township in Hunterdon County.
On Friday night, June 8, NJDOT’s contractor, Sparwick Contracting Inc., is scheduled to close and detour the ramp for approximately three months to perform the necessary deck demolition and reconstruction work. The reconstructed ramp is expected to be reopened to traffic by the end of August 2012. The adjacent Route 22 westbound connection to I-78 westbound will not be impacted by the ramp closure.
During the closure, I-78 and Route 22 westbound motorists destined for CR 626 and points in Annandale will continue west on I-78 to use Exit 17 for Route 31 northbound to the Route 31 southbound Clinton/Flemington exit to CR 626 eastbound into Annandale.
The approximately $512,000 project will replace the existing, structurally deficient bridge deck, parapets and the sidewalk. The roadway approaches on either end of the ramp will be resurfaced and the existing guide rail will be upgraded. Additional drainage improvements and new sign installations will be included as well.
Variable message signs will notify motorists of the upcoming traffic pattern changes.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
