Route 10 eastbound resurfacing project to start
in Morris and Essex counties
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a project to resurface almost eight miles of Route 10 eastbound from just west of Harrison Avenue in Morris Plains, Morris County to just east of the Eisenhower Parkway/Northfield Road circle in Livingston, Essex County.
“NJDOT is committed to maintaining our transportation network in a state of good repair,” Commissioner James Simpson said. “Investments such as this project improve motorist safety and provide a smoother, more comfortable ride.”
NJDOT’s contractor, Della Pello Paving Inc., has started preliminary construction activities including site mobilization and sign installation this week, requiring shoulder closures.
The $4.7 million project will mill and resurface Route 10 eastbound with a new surface course of asphalt pavement from milepost 11.05 through Morris Plans, Parsippany-Troy Hills, Hanover and East Hanover to milepost 18.81 in Livingston. This concentrated effort to repair the deficient roadway will extend the lifespan of this stretch of highway and provide a safer ride for motorists. Additionally, the existing drainage inlets will be restored and new image-detection cameras will be installed at selected intersections to replace the existing underground loop detectors.
All Route 10 eastbound travel lanes will be maintained during peak travel hours as NJDOT is confining the repaving work to off-peak and overnight hours to minimize the impact to motorists. Dynamic message signs will notify motorists of upcoming traffic pattern changes.
The project, which was designed in-house by NJDOT engineers, is scheduled for completion in early-2013.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org real-time travel information.
