Traffic plan announced
to help handle crowds
for weekend
Orion music festival in Atlantic
City
(Trenton) -
NJDOT officials today announced a
traffic management plan to help accommodate
tens of thousands of music fans expected
to visit Atlantic City this weekend
to attend the weekend-long Orion Music+More
festival headlined both nights by Metallica.
Highway lane closures and exit ramp
restrictions have been planned to
promote safety for pedestrians walking
to and from the Bader Field concert
site during the event. The traffic
plan was developed in close coordination
with Atlantic City officials and the
New Jersey State Police.
- On Saturday, June 23 and
on Sunday, June 24 the right
lane of Route 40/322(Albany Avenue)
westbound in Atlantic City
will be closed to vehicular traffic
from Memorial Circle (at intersection
of Route 40/322 with Atlantic Avenue)
to Bader Field at 9 a.m. each day
to create a safety buffer for pedestrians
headed to the concert site.
- On Saturday, June 23 and
on Sunday, June 24 Route 40/322
will be closed and detoured in
each direction at the concert
site from 11 p.m. until crowds clear
to provide safety for pedestrians
exiting the concert site.
Those traveling to Atlantic City
by car will be directed to approximately
18 parking lots in Atlantic City,
as well as to the interceptor lot
on the AC Expressway, just east of
the Pleasantville toll plaza. Shuttle
buses will transport fans between
the concert site and parking locations.
More information on accessing the
concert is available here.
Atlantic City officials are responsible
for handling pedestrian and vehicular
traffic on city streets, including
designating routes for shuttles that
will be available to transport concert-goers
to and from hotels, parking facilities
and other locations, including the
NJ TRANSIT Rail Terminal.
NJDOT traffic operations officials
will work with New Jersey State Police
to keep traffic flowing on Routes
30 and 40/322, to divert traffic to
AC Expressway as needed and carry
out any restrictions or closures in
a coordinated manner. Dynamic message
signs will provide traffic information
and updates to motorists on the major
local highways.
NJDOT’s traffic information
website www.511nj.org and telephone
service 511 will feature updates
on travel conditions around the Atlantic
City area. Motorists are encouraged
