NJDOT to reconstruct Route 130 bridge over
Craft’s Creek in Burlington County

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced a project to replace the Route 130 bridge over Craft’s Creek connecting Mansfield and Florence townships in Burlington County.

On Saturday afternoon June 23, NJDOT’s contractor, South State Inc., is scheduled to set up the initial construction zone on the northbound side of the bridge. To accommodate that work NJDOT will close the northbound shoulder and right-lane, reducing Route 130 northbound from two travel lanes to one travel. Route 130 southbound will not be impacted during this stage of construction. NJDOT will replace the bridge in stages so that at least one travel lane on Route 130 in both directions will remain open to traffic at all times.

• During the first stage of construction large trucks and buses will be restricted from making a left turn from Hornberger Avenue onto Route 130 northbound. They will be directed to use Delaware Avenue to Route 130 northbound.

The $5.1 million federally-funded project began utility relocations in April. NJDOT will replace the existing, structurally deficient at-grade bridge with a new wider structure complete with new sidewalks and concrete parapets that will be modeled after the current ones. The existing bridge was built in 1920 and has deteriorated over time requiring replacement. The wider structure will allow for the addition of a new dedicated right-turn lane from Route 130 southbound to Hornberger Avenue. Route 130 will be repaved on either side of the bridge as well.

Approximately 22,500 vehicles use this bridge every day to cross Craft’s Creek located at milepost 51.6, approximately half-way between Burlington City and Bordentown on heavily-traveled Route 130. Dynamic message signs are being utilized to notify motorists of upcoming traffic pattern changes.

NJDOT anticipates the project being completed in early-summer 2014.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org real-time travel information.
