Bridge maintenance work to require overnight lane closures along Interstate 195 in Hamilton
Preventive maintenance project to address
six additional structures
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that the left travel lane on Interstate 195 is scheduled to be closed in both directions between milepost (mp) 4 and milepost 5 in Hamilton Township for maintenance repairs to six bridge structures, during the next two weeks.
In order to make preventative repairs to the six bridges carrying I-195 in both directions over Crosswicks Square Road (mp 4.11), an abandoned Conrail line (eastbound mp 4.22, westbound mp 4.3) and over Route 130 (mp 4.9), the contractor is scheduled to close the left travel lane from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning Monday through Thursday, for approximately two weeks. No closures will take place on weekends.
Last month, NJDOT completed construction on a $2.8 million bridge maintenance project to help extend the service life of 28 bridge and ramp structures that cross over I-195 between Wall Township and Hamilton Township. This project was completed under budget, allowing NJDOT to include similar repair work to these six additional structures as part of the contract.
NJDOT’s maintenance contractor, Power Concrete Company, Inc., will be performing different levels of bridge maintenance work at each location including deck patching, joint repairs, header reconstruction, crack repairs and the application of a corrosion inhibitor. Performing these types of proactive, preventive repairs helps prolong the lifespan of these bridges and delays the need for more extensive and more expensive projects.
All work is weather dependent. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
