NJDOT announces I-80 lane closures overnight
in Parsippany-Troy Hills
Reconstruction of I-80 bridge decks over I-287 northbound and Smith Road completed
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced overnight lane closures will be needed to remove concrete safety barrier and restore Interstate 80 over I-287 northbound and Smith Road to the normal travel-lane configuration in Parsippany-Troy Hills, Morris County.
NJDOT’s contractor, Sparwick Contracting, has completed reconstruction work on the I-80 bridges in both directions at this location, on schedule.
To facilitate the removal of the concrete safety barrier, NJDOT will utilize double and triple-lane closures on I-80 in each direction between 9:30 p.m. and 6 a.m., the following morning on Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21. I-80 is expected to be back in the original travel configuration by Sunday morning, July 22.
Construction began on the $6.4 million project in January 2011. NJDOT replaced the four existing, structurally deficient I-80 bridge decks over I-287 northbound and Smith Road. The project was scheduled in stages to ensure I-80 remained open to traffic in both directions at all times.
The precise timing of the overnight work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
