Route 206 to be resurfaced in Hammonton
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a project to resurface more than six miles of Route 206 in both directions in Hammonton Town, Atlantic County.
“NJDOT is committed to improving our state’s aging infrastructure and providing safe travel for all motorists,” Transportation Commissioner James Simpson said. “This much-needed resurfacing of Route 206 in Atlantic County will provide a smoother ride and improve safety.”
NJDOT’s contractor, Arawak Paving Co., is scheduled to start preliminary construction activities including site mobilization and sign installation this week, requiring shoulder closures. The $1.5 million project will resurface Route 206 in both directions with a new surface course of asphalt pavement from Rizzotte Drive (just north of the southern terminus of the highway at Route 30) to the Atlantic-Burlington County border (just south of Shamong Township, at milepost 6.3).
Mainline resurfacing operations will begin later this summer. Resurfacing work will be done during off-peak travel hours, requiring single-lane closures with alternating traffic patterns. One lane will be maintained in each direction during peak travel periods on Route 206, an important north-south corridor. Access to all businesses and residences along the state highway will be maintained throughout construction.
Dynamic Message Signs will provide motorists with advance notification of traffic pattern changes. The project, which was designed in-house by NJDOT engineers, is scheduled to be fully completed by the end of the year 2012.
