NJDOT announces Route 17 resurfacing project
in Bergen County
Highway pavement condition to be improved in both directions between Hasbrouck Heights and Ridgewood
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced a project to resurface more than 9 miles of Route 17 in both directions between Hasbrouck Heights and Ridgewood in Bergen County.
“This concentrated effort to repair the roadway will go a long way in providing a safer and smoother ride for motorists on the highly-traveled Route 17 in Bergen County,” Transportation Commissioner James Simpson said.
NJDOT’s contractor, Della Pello Paving, is scheduled to start preliminary construction activities including site mobilization and sign installation this week, requiring shoulder closures. Mainline resurfacing operations are scheduled to begin later this month on the southbound side of the highway.
The approximately $12.8 million project will resurface Route 17 mainline in both directions with a new surface course of asphalt pavement from just north of Ottawa Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights (milepost 8.1) through Hackensack, Lodi, Maywood, Rochelle Park and Paramus to just south of W. Saddle River Road in the Village of Ridgewood (milepost 17.2). The project will also address the roadway shoulders and selected ramps along this stretch of Route 17.
Work requiring lane closures will be performed during off-peak travel periods, under the allowable lane closure schedule, in order to minimize traffic impacts on Route 17, a heavily traveled north-south corridor through Bergen County. Dynamic message signs will notify motorists of upcoming traffic pattern changes. Construction operations will be restricted during events at the Izod Center, New Meadowlands Stadium or Meadowlands Racetrack. Access to all businesses and residences along the state highway will be maintained throughout construction.
Minor deck repairs will be made at certain bridges within the project limits, as well. The project, designed in-house by NJDOT engineers, is scheduled for completion in spring 2013.
