River Road to be closed for railroad-crossing repairs
in Paterson City
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that a portion of River Road in Paterson City will be closed next week in order to rehabilitate a New York, Susquehana & Western freight railroad grade crossing.
River Road will be closed to traffic between 4th Avenue and 5th Avenue from Monday, September 10 at 8 a.m. to around 4 p.m. on Friday, September 14, weather dependent.
• Southbound motorists will be directed to use 4th Avenue west to E. 13th Street south to River Street.
• Northbound motorists will be directed to use 5th Avenue east to E. 15th Street north to River Street.
Access will be maintained to residential properties on either side of the rail line.
In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing on River Road, NJDOT and the railroad contractor will replace the existing crossing with a new concrete freight rail crossing and repave the asphalt approaches. The cost of the work is $327,000. This project is part of NJDOT’s ongoing railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades or removes approximately 30 crossings each year.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
