NJDOT to construct new left-turn lane from
Route 168 northbound to CR 705
in Washington Township

The addition of the new turn lane will alleviate congestion on the northbound side of the highway that is currently caused by vehicles stopping at the intersection to make the left-turn movement.

NJDOT’s maintenance pavement contractor will begin concrete curb construction operations this week at the intersection. This work will require the closure of the existing Route 168 northbound left lane for approximately two weeks. NJDOT will also close the Route 168 southbound left travel lane at the intersection when necessary.

NJDOT electrical crews have already made necessary modifications to the existing traffic signals in advance of the new turn lane being constructed. Additionally, new signage will be installed to conform to the new configuration of the intersection.

The approximately $189,000 job will also construct new sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb and curb ramps throughout the intersection, to increase pedestrian safety. The project, which was initiated by a request from local officials, is expected to wrap up in October 2012.
