Route 3 ramp system changes announced
in Lyndhurst and Rutherford
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced additional changes are planned this weekend for the exit/entrance ramp system along the Route 3 corridor in Lyndhurst and Rutherford.
Beginning late this Friday night, September 28, NJDOT’s contractor, Creamer-Sanzari JV, is scheduled to reopen the Route 3 westbound ramp to Ridge Road in Rutherford.
Subsequently, the contractor is then scheduled to permanently close the Route 3 westbound ramp to Riverside Avenue in Rutherford and temporarily close the Riverside Avenue ramp to Route 3 westbound for approximately two months.
• Route 3 westbound motorists headed for Riverside Avenue will be directed to use the Ridge Road exit.
• Motorists looking to access Route 3 westbound from Riverside Avenue will be directed to the westbound entrance ramp near Lincoln Avenue.
The ramp system modifications are necessary to help facilitate further construction activities as part of the ongoing $156 million, federally-funded Route 3 Passaic River bridge replacement project.
NJDOT is replacing the structurally deficient moveable bridge with a new fixed span over the Passaic River, connecting Clifton City in Passaic County with Rutherford and Lyndhurst in Bergen County. NJDOT has staged the project in a manner that will enable motorists to cross the Passaic River throughout construction, which began in summer 2010 and is planned for completion in fall 2013.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
