NJDOT announces series of Route 130 Raccoon Creek bridge weekend full closures
Drawbridge to be closed to vehicular traffic for maintenance repairs an estimated five weekends in a row in Logan Township
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a planned series of full closures of the Route 130 drawbridge over the Raccoon Creek in Logan Township over the next five weekends for maintenance repair work.
Beginning around 4 a.m. on Saturday, October 20 the bridge will be closed to motorists in both directions with the structure anticipated to be reopened by 5 a.m. on Monday, October 22. To supplement the bridge closure, the Route 322 ramp connections (from both directions) to Route 130 southbound will also be restricted during the same time frame.
• Route 130 southbound motorists will take Route 322 eastbound to I-295 southbound to CR 620/Center Square Road westbound to Route 130 southbound.
• Route 130 northbound motorists will take CR 620/Center Square Road east to I-295 northbound to Route 322 westbound to Route 130 northbound.
• Route 322 motorists destined for Route 130 southbound will be directed to use I-295 southbound to CR 620/Center Square Road westbound to Route 130 southbound.
• Access to Gloucester County Dream Park, located on the south side of Raccoon Creek, will be maintained from Route 130 northbound. Park visitors coming from Route 130 southbound will follow the detour route, then turn right onto Route 130 northbound for access to the park.
The following four (4) consecutive weekend closures are also planned to complete this work, utilizing the same closure intervals and detours listed above: 10/26/12, 11/2/12, 11/9/12 and 11/16/12. If the work is completed earlier, all five weekend closures will not be necessary. NJDOT will utilize dynamic message signs on Route 130, Route 322 and I-295 to alert motorists of the bridge closures and detours.
Structural repairs are also being made to the southbound side of the drawbridge and new retaining walls are being built on either side of the bridge. NJDOT has planned the closures over weekend periods to minimize the impact to Route 130 motorists. Waterway traffic will not be impeded by the construction.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
The Department currently has a project in design that proposes to replace the existing, structurally deficient Raccoon Creek drawbridge with an elevated, fixed-span bridge.
