Route 45 to be closed for railroad-crossing
repairs in Woodbury
Highway scheduled to be closed in both directions
Thursday into Friday
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that a portion of Route 45 is scheduled to be closed in both directions to rehabilitate a Conrail freight railroad grade crossing this weekend in Woodbury City, Gloucester County.
Route 45 will be closed to traffic at the railroad crossing south of Railroad Avenue at 6 a.m. on Thursday, November 15 and will be reopened around 7 p.m. on Friday, November 16.
• Motorists heading south on Route 45 will be directed to take Salem Avenue (CR 551) south to Twells Avenue to Route 45.
• Motorists heading north on Route 45 will be directed to take Twells Avenue to Salem Avenue (CR 551) north to Route 45 north.
The detour routes were coordinated with the Woodbury Police Department. Access will be maintained to businesses and residential properties on either side of the rail line. NJDOT will utilize dynamic message signs to notify motorists of the closure and detours.
The freight rail contractor will replace the existing crossing with a new concrete freight rail crossing and repave the asphalt approaches to provide a safer and smoother driving surface. The existing sidewalks will be upgraded as well. This project is part of NJDOT’s ongoing railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades or removes approximately 30 crossings each year on state and local roadways.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s 511 traffic information website for construction updates and real-time travel information.
