Additional closure of Route 88 drawbridge planned overnight for Wednesday in Point Pleasant
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that the Route 88 Bridge over the Point Pleasant Canal in Point Pleasant Borough is scheduled to be closed to traffic overnight this Wednesday, December 19.
NJDOT will close the bridge to traffic from 10 p.m. to about 5 a.m. the following morning to allow for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to perform necessary underwater work in the Canal at this location. This is the third such closure of the bridge in the past two weeks.
NJDOT will utilize variable message signs on Route 88 to alert motorists of the bridge closures and detour. The following detours will be in place during the closures:
• Route 88 eastbound motorists will take Beaver Dam Road (CR 630) to Bridge Avenue east over the Lovelandtown Bridge to Bay Avenue to Route 88 eastbound.
• Route 88 westbound motorists will take Bay Avenue to Bridge Avenue west over the Lovelandtown Bridge to Beaver Dam Road to Route 88 westbound.
The work is being done under an NJDOT regional Highway Occupancy Permit and further overnight closures are possible.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
