NJDOT announces overnight closures of Route 21 northbound connection to Route 3 in Clifton
Demolition work for Passaic River bridge project requires closures
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that the Route 21 northbound ramp connection to Route 3 is scheduled to be closed for three nights this week in Clifton City.
NJDOT’s contractor, Creamer-Sanzari JV, is planning the close the split ramp that connects Route 21 northbound motorists to either direction on Route 3 this Wednesday, January 2 and Thursday, January 3 from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and on Friday, January 4 from 9:30 p.m. until around 7 a.m. the following morning.
• Route 21 northbound motorists will be directed to continue to the Exit 10 interchange to U-turn onto Route 21 southbound to the ramps for Route 3 in either direction.
Last month the contractor shifted the Route 3 westbound travel lanes onto a newly completed portion of the new westbound bridge. Route 3 is carrying three travel lanes in each direction on the outer thirds of the new raised level Route 3 Passaic River bridge connecting Clifton City in Passaic County with Rutherford and Lyndhurst in Bergen County. The old bridge is now being demolished, with construction of the inner third of the new structure to begin in the spring. Ultimately the new Passaic River bridge will carry four travel lanes in each direction – two Local lanes and two Express lanes.
NJDOT has staged the project in a manner that enables Route 3 motorists to cross the Passaic River throughout construction.
