NJDOT announces series of weekend Route 44
Mantua Creek bridge full closures
Drawbridge to be closed to vehicular traffic for maintenance repairs the next two weekends in Paulsboro
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a series of full closures of the Route 44 (Crown Point Road) drawbridge over the Mantua Creek in Paulsboro for the next two weekends for maintenance repair work.
Beginning around 4 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, the bridge will be closed to motorists in both directions with the structure anticipated to be reopened by 5 a.m. on Monday, January 14.
• Route 44 southbound motorists will take Mantua Grove Road to I-295 southbound to CR 678/Berkley Road west to Route 44.
• Route 44 northbound motorists will take CR 678/Berkley Road east to I-295 northbound to Mantua Grove Road to Route 44.
A second weekend closure is planned to complete this work, utilizing the same closure intervals and detours listed above, over the weekend of January 19-21. NJDOT will utilize dynamic message signs on Route 44 and Interstate 295 to alert motorists of the bridge closures and detours.
The work had originally been scheduled for weekends in November and December 2012, but was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances in the area.
Maintenance repair work and rebalancing the lift-span will require that the drawbridge be pinned in the raised position. NJDOT has planned the closures over weekend periods to minimize the impact to Route 44 motorists. Waterway traffic will not be impeded by the construction.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
