NJDOT wrapping up Route 1&9T viaduct project over
St. Paul’s Avenue in Jersey City
(Trenton) -
NJDOT officials today announced that the newly reconfigured Tonnele Circle has been opened and motorists have been reconnected to the Route 1&9 Pulaski Skyway as major construction operations have been completed on the $220 million Route 1&9T/St. Paul’s Avenue viaduct project in Jersey City.
NJDOT’s contractor, George Harms Construction Co., has replaced the Routes 1&9T viaduct over St. Paul's Avenue and constructed a series of new approach roadways to safely connect Route 1&9T, Route 7, the Pulaski Skyway, Route 139, Route 1&9 north of Tonnele Circle and local streets in Jersey City. The project provides a more continuous flow of traffic and safer connections to the roadways that form a vital link to this region's transportation network.
Construction began back in 2009 and as of late-February all roadways and ramps are fully operational. The remaining work consists of completion of work items added to the project, replacement of components controlling traffic cameras and dynamic messaging signs of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) damaged by Superstorm Sandy. All of this work is scheduled to be substantially complete by August 2013.
Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
